A friend recently said to me, “The truth always prevails, so sooner or later it will right itself.” Indeed, it does. And, indeed, it will.

With a recent article calling into question my professional integrity, I am taking this opportunity, and using this space, as a place to share my thoughts on the subject.  I certainly understand the passion for accuracy in journalism – having been a student, an educator, and a practitioner for 20 years.

To address this subject, it’s my intention in the coming weeks to meet individually with each of the 12 media that received the news release. My purpose is to directly respond to any questions of my integrity, the accuracy of what was distributed, as well as to share factual information about the topic.

What was intended to be a fun announcement with good news has become anything but. A frank reminder from a colleague was shared that “Government and fun typically don’t mix.”  It doesn’t have to be that way.  Today, it is.

Most anyone who knows me, has worked with me, or has been taught by me, will share her or his thoughts about my passion for accuracy and accountability. Nearly two decades of working alongside good journalists has taught me the importance of getting the facts right and being able to back up a statement.

In time, I believe any questions surrounding my integrity will be resolved. Touch base if you choose. I’m friendly and try to walk this earth lightly, and hope that upon reading this you’ll have a similar perspective.
